Great visit with Grandpa John

This past weekend, Grandpa John (my Dad) visited from Santa Fe!  We all had such a great time!  The weather was beautiful!  We enjoyed great food and were able to visit lots!  As usual, Grace was the center of attention – just how she prefers it :)  It only took about 2 seconds before she was crawling all over her Grandpa and throwing her arms up at him!  I am always amazed by her ability to be so open and loving!  She has been getting braver – she is letting go and standing all by herself!  She hasn’t gotten quite brave enough to take a step – but she is close!  It is always fun to have family visit!

1 year check-up

Grace had her 1 year check-up today, and she is healthy!  She weighs 19 lbs 5 oz.  But she had to have 3 shots, which I hate!  She was pushing the nurse away and crying!  I hate watching her go through that (she was of course fine pretty soon after).  I decided to delay the MMR until she is a little older.  The whole debate over immunizations is so hard for a parent.  There seems to be no definitive evidence that the MMR is connected to autism, but there is enough to make you question it.  And I feel like either way, immunization or not, I could harm my baby.  I guess it is part of the mommyhood territory.  In some ways, life as a parent was so much easier before the internet and all the information!  Anyway, I am so grateful she is healthy and happy!

All she wants to do is dance

Grace has been dancing more and more when she hears music.  I love it!  She puts her hands up and starts to bounce when she likes a song.  She seems to love reggae! It is adorable!  I think it is so neat that babies just instinctively move when they hear music!  Just one more thing to love about my baby girl!

So sad

I am new to blogging and to reading blogs, but recently I have been reading some other mom blogs.  Through reading these, I learned about Madeline Alice Spohr.  She was an adorable little 17 month old girl who passed away last week.  All I can think is how sad and how I can’t imagine what her parents are going through.  It breaks my heart.  So I am praying for the Spohr family.  Here is the link to march of dimes to donate in her name – March of Dimes

Happy Birthday Grace

This past Sunday, Grace turned 1!  It is amazing to me that it has been a year already!  Looking back at pictures from the day she was born, I got teary-eyed.  She has brought so much joy into our life.  She is absolutely the light of our life and Kelly and I can’t imaging the past year without her.  She has become the center of every family function (she gets so much attention, I think she has come to expect it!)  Watching her grow, learn, and change is absolutely fabulous! So here’s to Grace, the best daughter in the world!

Grace on Day 1

MMMM! Cake!

MMMM! Cake!

Oh Strawberries!

So, last night we let Grace try a bite of strawberry.  She is 1  - which seems to be the age that EVERY thing is OK to eat.  It is the magical age by which everything is determined.  No honey until age 1, no cows milk until age 1, etc.  So we figured let’s let her try strawberry.  Well, she loved it!  Practically ripped it out of Kelly’s hand!  This morning, we get up and she has a little red rash.  Throughout the day, the “little rash” spreads down her legs, her arms, her tummy – she has hives!  So now it is benedryl every six hours and no more strawberries for Grace – at least for a while!

Welcome to A Graceful Life

2009 is already proving to be an interesting year for the Zimny Family.  I have started my own business, Vintage VA Services.  Kelly is starting a new (but sort of old) job at Honeycutt Aviation.  And Grace is changing and growing every day!  So this blog will follow us through our crazy, but wonderful life!
